Abstract:
The new 1.7 mile (2.7 km) long Cline Avenue Bridge in East Chicago, IN, USA, with a 316 ft (96 m) main span over the Indiana Harbor and Ship Canal, was constructed using the balanced cantilever method. It was essential that the canal remain open to barge traffic during the construction of the bridge, so Enerpac strand jack technology was used to lift precast concrete bridge segments to complete the canal span.
