Abstract:
Concrete topping slabs in the 22-story Avocet Tower, a side-by-side office and hotel structure in Bethesda, MD, USA, were constructed using basalt fiber-reinforced polymer (BFRP) bars. The 3 to 5 in. (76 to 127 mm) thick slabs were designed using No. 3 BFRP bars as temperature and shrinkage reinforcement. The article discusses the design and construction of these slabs as well as benefits of using BFRP bars in construction.
