Abstract:
Site-specific ground motions are needed for performance-based seismic design of LNG tanks as per API 620 and ACI 376. LNG tanks are expected to remain operational after Operating Basis Earthquake (OBE), and they are expected to hold their contents (without leak) after the Safe Shutdown Earthquake (SSE). For static analyses, response spectra are needed for various values of damping. For dynamic analyses, 'time histories' of horizontal and vertical ground motions are needed. This presentation will discuss how to generate horizontal and vertical ground motions for SSE and OBE hazard levels.
