Abstract:
Deicing salts have been identified as a primary contributor to premature concrete pavement failures. Various mitigative efforts have been studied, with increased pozzolan content providing some of the most promising results. While these measures provide potential strategies for current and future projects, the question of a viable approach to address existing pavements remains largely without a definitive answer. This study evaluates the effects of the application of spray-applied colloidal silica on the transport properties of existing concrete in the laboratory and provides information from two field evaluations.
