Abstract:
Internal curing using superabsorbent polymers (SAP) is considered an effective method to restrain the early-age shrinkage of cementitious composite materials by delaying the decrease of internal relative humidity caused by self-desiccation. In additive manufacturing, excessive drying due to lack of formwork combined with self-desiccation causes significant shrinkage that may impair the mechanical properties and durability of the printed elements. This study focuses on the feasibility of using superabsorbent polymers as internal curing agents in 3D printing of cementitious composite materials. The printability of the SAP-incorporated mortars was evaluated, and the effects of the internal curing water on the viscoelastic and mechanical properties of the printed mortar were examined.
