Abstract:
One of the most effective teaching and learning methods is through use of inquiry-based approaches and utilization of student-led projects. However, these methods are not as frequently utilized in university laboratory courses as the more traditional, prescriptive, step-by-step laboratory tests, which allow instructors to plan and manage all the details of the class. In this talk, we will discuss a tested approach to implementing student-led inquiry-based projects which encourage creativity, critical thinking, and encourage students to engage with concrete sustainability initiatives while simultaneously teaching the scientific method and basics of concrete testing.
