Abstract:
Sustainability is a key term to be specified in codes for concrete structures. ISO 22040: 2021 titled “Life cycle management of concrete structures” introduces sustainability indicators for the evaluation of life cycle scenarios at planning, design, execution, use and life-end stages of concrete structures. ISO 19338 titled “Performance and assessment requirements for design standards on structural concrete” is under the process of revision, during which principles of design and assessment with respect to sustainable development and sustainability evaluation are animatedly discussed. Furthermore, in Japan, “Code for the Bases of Structures Design (tentative title)” recommends that the performance requirements of structures should be determined in consideration of social, economic and environmental sustainability. In this presentation these documents will be introduced particularly focusing on how sustainability is dealt with.
