Written with the craftsman in mind this newest entry in ACI's Concrete Craftsman Series of publications, goes back to the basics. Starting with chapters on materials and proportioning, this easy-to-read book then proceeds through the entire construction process. First batching and mixing are covered, including descriptions of the various types of mixers. Chapter 5 covers handling, placing and consolidating with sections on such topics as conveyors, shotcreting, and various types of vibration. The critical importance of curing and protection are then emphasized, including precautions for hot or cold weather. Controlling the quality of concrete is covered in the next two chapters on field testing and strength evaluation. A complete vocabulary of terms used throughout the book, will allow the reader to know what is being discussed. This book is essential for the beginner to the concrete industry.
