Abstract:
Static and fatigue tests were conducted on five one-third-scale composite bridge deck panels. The concrete panels were supported and restrained on two steel girders and end diaphragms. The punching shear strengths and fatigue strengths at various positions of the composite bridge deck panels were measured. Both punching shear strength and fatigue strength decreased in the case in which the load was applied at the area near the supports compared to the center of the panel. The variations can be predicted from magnitude of compressive in-plane forces and shear forces developed at the edges of the loading area of the tested panels.
