Abstract:
Investigations have been carried out on the modification of OPC/PFA paste with various polymeric materials, such as Versicol W13, sodium carboxy methyl cellulose, Versicol KA21 and Crodafix. The hardened OPC/PFA pastes were cured under water and their mechanical properties determined. A conduction calorimeter was used to evaluate the heat evolution pattern of the modified paste. The results show that sodium carboxy methyl cellulose and Versicol KA21 act as strong retarders whilst the other two polymers produce only slight retardation. The investigation has been extended to include the ageing effect of the polymers on the mechanical properties of the cement paste and the consequences of these further studies are discussed in detail.
