Abstract:
An iterative procedure is developed to calculate minimum thickness for one-way slabs corresponding to prescribed deflection limits. The minimum thicknesses obtained are compared with values given by the ACI Code. Results of a parametric study are presented showing the effects of design variables on the calculated minimum thickness. A minimum thickness equation is developed based on code-specified deflection calculation procedures that provides minimum thickness as a function of the specified deflection limit.
