Abstract:
This paper presents a methodology for determining the reliability against progressive collapse of multistory flat slab structures during construction. The influence of design decisions and construction control procedures on the probable collapse performance is studied using this methodology. Results of a parametric study on an example structure using basic parameters for both design decisions and construction control procedures clearly show that the responsibility for determining the reliability against progressive collapse during construction is shared equally between designer and contractor. The reliability methodology gives the designer, contractor, and owner an analytical procedure by which to weigh alternative design and construction methods.
