Abstract:
Hollow reinforced concrete cylinders are being proposed as shields for stored nuclear wastes. The structural response under thermal loading is therefore of interest. A simple method to calculate approximate thermal stresses in reinforced concrete containers is presented. The procedure accounts for creep and shrinkage of the concrete. The method is illustrated with an example.
