Abstract:
This fourth ACI Raymond E. Davis Lecture suggests some consideration be given by concrete technologists to the total impact of their technology. It is pointed out that concrete is a visible part of the urban sprawl and is already lending its name to some of the problems of progress. Better concrete, better planning, and broader concern are suggested, i.e., a better melding of improved concrete design and construction technology, with a deeper under-standing of what people expect and need of the end prod-uct.
