Abstract:
Results of investigations are reported that suggest that mass concrete having appropriate levels of relevant properties for the construction of dams may be produced with portland cement contents as low as 60 lb per cu yd (36 kg/m3) and with a water content of less than 80 lb per cu yd (48 kg/m3). The attainment of maximum reductions in cement and water content depends on the properties of the pozzolan used, the effectiveness of the water-reducing or water retarding admixture used, and on the particle shape of the aggregate.
