Abstract:
Ferrocement is a thin section cement mortar with rein-forcement in the form of multiple layers of light mesh. This type of construction is being used not only for boats 30 ft and longer but for food storage silos and water tanks; it is also being proposed for roof structures, housing, shells and wind tunnels. For continuing applications and comparison with other material, engineering design properties of ferrocement are necessary. This report presents the results of tests on ferro-cement beams. Data on initial cracking, crack widths and ultimate strength are reported. Possible design equations are given and comparison with conventionally reinforced con-crete is made.
