Abstract:
Describes two cases where coarse aggregates were eliminated from concrete and sand-cement mortar used in construction. Sites were desert terrain in North Africa and on Arabian Gulf; design specified to expedite work and offer economy. Two new methods for measuring consistency of sand-cement mortar explained, and since they can be performed using small quantities of sand, are considered advantageous over conventional slump tests.
