Abstract:
Three nondimensional constitutive parameters based on stress-strain data are presented. In conjunction with the maximum stress and ulti-mate strain, these constitutive parameters can be used to compute the capacities of rectangular, triangular, or linearly tapering cross sec-tions to any desired accuracy. The initial and primary purpose of these constitutive parameters is to provide an efficient means of rep-resenting constitutive data for moment capacity calculations. These constitutive parameters also have other uses: providing a method of calculating moment capacities using complicated constitutive laws, calculating curvature at failure, and calculating capacities for biax-ial square columns with triangular compressive areas.
