Abstract:
Rules for determining ultimate load design moments without any frame analysis are presented together with demonstrations of their use. The rules constitute for reinforced concrete beams and columns in braced frames a design procedure analogous to plastic design in structural steel. Derivations of design coefficients are based on strength and deformation compatibility limits contained in the ACI-ASCE Committee 428 "Progress Report on Code Clauses for Limit Design."
