Abstract:
Load-deflection measurements obtained from full scale plate-bearing tests were analyzed and compared with theoretical calculated values to evaluate the strength of a section of the prestressed concrete runway of Kuwait International Airport. Total length o the runway consisted of 13 such sections, each about 278 m (912.7 ft) 1g. on Results showed that the bearing capacity of the section’s central part was weaker than the required value. A method was established to strengthen the existing pavement with a concrete overlay directly bonde to the prestressed pavement.
