Abstract:
Expressions for shrinkage stresses in concrete are derived in accordance with stress analysis in viscoelastic materials proposed by Lee. Following Pickett’s theory, formulas for shrinkage stresses in linear viscoelastic bodies represented by a four-element model are derived. Shrinkage stresses on the exposed surface of a concrete beam drying from one face and two opposite faces are computed using four-element model constants obtained by Theuer and Hansen. Some considerations are given on the effect of creep and shrinkage on the shrinkage stresses and modulus of rupture of concrete.
