Abstract:
Describes a design method for short, reinforced concrete columns subjected to axial load and biaxial bending. The method is based on the ACI Building Code (ACI 318-63) and constant stress distribution. The method is also based on the assumptions that (1) the carrying capacity of a section is equal to the algebraic sum of the carrying capacities of the concrete and reinforcement at compression failure; (2) stepwise constant stress distribution is used; and (3) when the edge stress of the concrete is fully employed, the stress in the reinforcing steel is also fully employed.
