Abstract:
A discussion of the design and construction procedure for a gridwall consisting of closely spaced precast concrete columns. The merit of placing a hinge at midheight between floors is compared to the difficulties encountered in making a moment connection at the floor level. Examples are given of the present trend in the design of grid-walls. The cost of a gridwall is compared to the cost of a conventional curtain wall with separate structural columns, and factors affecting cost are evaluated.
