Abstract:
Paper deals with the durability of concrete when exposed to freezing and thawing in sea water. Extensive experimental investigotions hove for the post PO years been carried out at the concrete laboratory of Norway’s Institute of Technology, Trondheim, and the most important results from these investigations ore reported here. Among the more important results is that freezing and thowing in sea water is much more detrimental to the durability of the concrete than is the freezing ond thawing in fresh water. Furthermore, it is shown that the amount of entrained air necessary for giving the highest resistance of the concrete to frost action in sea water is in the range of 10 to 12 percent, which is more thon twice OS Jorge as for concrete in fresh water.
