Abstract:
Premature disintegration occasioned investigation of alkali soils and their effect on concrete. Analysis of alkali content of several California soils are presented. Test specimens made with I I cements commercially avallable in California. were subjected to varying degrees ot ex- posure to sea water and alkali soils. Compressive strengths and weiq ht losses are recorded, indicating effect of chemical composit;on of cement on alkali resistance. Specific results apply to California ce-ments, but major trends should be of general interest.
