Abstract:
This paper attempts to show by computation temperature changes and temperature distributions near formed surfaces of some typical concrete structures before and after removal of forms. The computations showed that near the surfaces temperature rises of 25 to 45 F may be expected in 1 1/2 to 6 ft concrete sec-tions. Removal of forms as early as possible before the maximum temperatures occur, or if this is not practical, removal of forms as late as possible, is in- . dicated as a means of reducing the danger of cracking due to thermal effects. The use of an additive material for reducing early heat liberation of the cement may be effective in reducing temperature rise and cracking tendency of concrete.
