Abstract:
Construction of the Passaic Valley Sewerage Commission’s 300-mgd (13 m3/s) secondary wastewater treatment plant in New Jersey utilized 60,000 piles and 400,000 cu yd (305, 840 m3) of concrete, presenting an impressive display of concrete design and construction practices to build a state-of-the-an wastewater and sludge treatment system. This article discusses the general background of the project, design constraints, construction management, and construction of the piles, cast-in-place concrete, and process units. [Author]
