Abstract:
This article describes the methods used to repair a 50-year-old water plant whose concrete walls had suffered severe deterioration due to freeze-thaw cycling and exposure to corrosive chemicals. The repairs had to be made while the plant remained in operation. The existing walls of the chlorination tank were encased with a new concrete wall. Deteriorated concrete tie beams were replaced with epoxy-coated steel beams. Exterior-face wall repairs were made with shrinkage-compensating cementitious patching mortar and nterior-faced wall repairs were made with a flexible lining system.
