Abstract:
The contractors took advantage of a permissible construction option by redesigning the piers using 500 psi (38 MPa) concrete in the substructure and 6000 psi (41.4 MPa) concrete in the superstructure. This provided a major savings in material during construction. By changing other psi requirements for con crete strength under an option plan, further savings were demonstrated. This article also discusses the various mix proportions used in the project.
