Abstract:
A method is presented for calculating the additional cross-sectional area required in reinforced concrete columns to safely carry a bending moment acting simultaneously with axial load. Presently available interaction diagrams and tables of moment and load capacity for concrete columns require section dimensions as input. This method adapts a design aid, which is now used to size columns for axial load only, to be used to select dimensions of columns subject to simultaneous bending and axial force.
