Abstract:
The use of site prefabricated, large precast units and lifting techniques is an alternative method of construction to factory precasting. This technique mainly results in the construction of large jointless units, obtaining structural integrity and avoiding in situ connections and waterproofing problems. The choice of this method of construction is strictly related to structural design and to architectural and engineering considerations so that each job needs a previous arrangement to fit this technique. The flexibility of the method and its use are explain-ed in this article, with particular details on the con-struction of a silo, a bridge, and three types of factory buildings.
