Abstract:
Presents a procedure for the design of post-tensioned concrete pavements to withstand concentrated loads. Variation in the approach for repetitive and nonrepetitive loads is clearly distinguished. The procedure makes use of certain well-established principles of nonprestressed pavement design and de-scribes appropriate modification for their use for post-tensioned slabs on grade. The procedure consists of both preliminary and final design stages. The principal aim is to describe a logical step-by-step-method that finally arrives at a comprehensive design chart to permit rapid evaluation of alternatives of thickness and level of prestress. A case study illustrates use of the method for a large pavement constructed during 1981 at Brisbane, Australia.
