Abstract:
A column-free interior requiring 180-ft (54.9-m) spans prompted the use of hyperbolic paraboloid shells supported by massive cast-in-place concrete arms for the roof system. The complex roof system consists of two concrete decks separated by supporting trusses. The lower deck resembles an umbrella roof while the upper deck is a flat horizontal slab, covered with synthetic turf for use as a playing field. The paper describes the design procedures and con-struction techniques used for the project.*
