Abstract:
Describes research of tall, thin concrete masonry, brick masonry, and concrete tilt-up walls completed by the Structural Engineers Association of Southern California and the Southern California Chapter of the American Concrete Institute. Thirty-two walls were tested using both lateral and vertical loads to determine wall performance. Based on the performance of the walls, design techniques were developed and are recommended for code adop-tion. Results for wall tests are reported and a design example for a 6 in. concrete masonry wall is also included.
