Abstract:
Constant developments in civil engineering and growing industrial activities create a continual demand for building materials that satisfy increasingly stringent requirements. Polymer concretes seem to be a good answer for these requirements. The nature of polymer concretes compared to other concretes in terms of material engineering characteristics is presented. The categorv of concrete-polymer composites and their place . in the general classification of composites is described. A survey of worldwide research activity in this field is shown, including the number of papers and patents in various countries, and the more important congresses, symposia, and standardization activity. Major technical properties and the problem of properties control are summarized. Polymer concrete has been found to be a distinct class of concrete composites characterized bv the combination of many difficult-to-attain properties and the ability to selectively control them. *
