Abstract:
All too often, problems occur during an inspection tour of one or two year old sidewalks when trying to assess acceptability. Municipal engineers and owners sometimes expect an unblemished surface after two years use. In many parts of our country, nature has supplied us with coarse aggregate that contains small amounts of deleterious particles. The aggregate may meet all relevant specifications, but some types of deleterious aggregate cause popouts on the surface.
