Abstract:
Testing described here augmented conventional QA/QC procedures performed while casting 10,000 yd3 (7650m3) of structural concrete required for the Carl A. Kroch Library project at Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y. The University's construction management department requested that personnel from the School of Civil & Environmental Engineering monitor the in-place temperature of all structural concrete placements from October, 1990 until June, 1991, and to estimate the in-place compressive strength by means of the maturity principle. This termally-based testing was to provide the owner with an early warning of in-place quality problems resulting promarily from cold weather construction.
