Abstract:
A concrete rib floor forming system has been developed at the Portland Cement Association. Intended primarily for use on the first floor over a basement, the system can span up to 16 ft (4.9 m). The system can also be used in multifamily housing for the first and higher level floors. It has a better chance of competing successfully against wood floors in that market since codes usually require a 1 hr. minimum fire rating. The all concrete floor system offers many advantages to the homeowner, such as no vibration or squeaks, thermal mass for energy storage, and better fire and storm protection that wood joist construction.
