Abstract:
Recent failures throughout the world have called into question the reputation of concrete as a reliable, durable, maintenance-free material. The causes of these doubts range from ever-changing social demands and expectations, to developmetns in materials and methods of construction, to economic pressures. Improvements will only be achieved when there is a proper appreciation of the realities of today's concrete construction techniques; the only changes necessary are in the attitudes of all concerned. The author concludes with a radically simple proposition for improving the quality of concrete everywhere.
