Abstract:
Several prestressed concrete tanks exhibited unacceptable cracking of walls. An investigation revealed that the design had been based on the assumption that the walls were those of an isotropic shell. In fact, it was an orthotropic shell. The design was revised, taking the orthotropy into con-sideration. For the tanks built according to this design, the cracking was brought under control.
