Abstract:
In this paper, a relationship is proposed for the strength of retempered con-crete. This relationship is an empirical one and is obtained from an analysis ofpublished data of retempered concrete available from experimental studies conducted by a number of researchers. It is known that the compressive strength of concrete generally decreases after retempering, because of the resulting increase in the water/cement ratio (w/c) in the mix. The proposed relationship is an attempt to quantify the effect retempering has on strength, by relating two ratios, i.e., the ratio of the w/c in the concrete after retempering to that before, and the ratio of compressive strength afler retempering to that before retempering. A good correlation is obtained for data from the various sources, as well as some results obtained by the authors.
