Formed and unformed surfaces (exterior and interior walls, floors, and ceilings) can be specified as architectural concrete. However, the visual inspection criteria—viewing distance and lighting—appear to apply only to exterior walls. It is unclear how to interpret a 20 ft (6 m) viewing distance for a floor or ceiling, and what light to use for an interior visual inspection.

The Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts in Little Rock, AR, USA, has a new folded plate concrete roofline which became the museum's signature architectural element. Built of thin concrete plates arranged in angular folds, the roof covers a series of pavilions branching out like flower stems-creating a glassed-in gathering space for visitors on one end and a dining terrace on the other.

Architectural concrete requires a higher aesthetic finish than typical structural cast-in-place work. If structural concrete is expected to meet the aesthetic requirements normally associated with architectural concrete, the more subjective properties must be qualified and bid as architectural requirements. Otherwise, final acceptance of cast-in-place structural concrete might be difficult.
