Abstract:
Despite the progress that we have made in controlling the strength of our product, concrete problems persist and performance of concrete, in many cases, is less than expected. In some instances the owner is not receiving a quality product, while in other instances the contractor is being unreasonably penalized. What is the driving force behind the problems in concrete work and what should we really be relying on to attain quality in concrete construction? This article discusses the current trend in the construction industry and provides guidance in the selection of an appropriate quality control program in preparation of technical specifications, in evaluation of the contractor’s ability to produce quality work, in requirements of the project team, and in proper enforcement of specification requirements.
