Abstract:
Milwaukee experience in haulling air-entraining concrete in open dump truck bodies is recorded. Slump, air content, specific weight, compressive strength and workablity tests were made on concrete before and after a trial run over bumpy pavement. Some similar tests were made on concrete being placed in a Milwaukee street after open truch transportation. The author concludes that open trucks for hauling ready-mixed concrete are satisfactory when air content is between 3 and 6 percent (5 to 6 sacks cement per cu yd) and hauling time is 45 minutes or less, provided that aggregate moisture, grading and slump are carefully controlled.
