Abstract:
Discusses the history or background of specifications on the elongation tolerance for post-tensioning tendons with particular application to segmental concrete bridges. Detailed discussions are presented on variations in the area and modulus of elasticity of seven-wire prestressing strand and variations in the values of tendon friction and wobble coefficients. Structural considerations in evaluating variations from the tendon elongation are discussed. It is concluded that variations from the tendon elongation tolerances are not structurally significant when deficiencies in tendon force can be offset by use of tendons in provisional ducts.
