Abstract:
Part 1 of this article, published in last month’s issue of Concrete International, reviewed the topic of carbonation of concrete and its measurement in general. This was the background to the question of dating cracks in concrete by establishing the distance of the carbonation front from the crack surface. This second part discusses the various factors influencing the progress of carbonation from the crack surface, and leads to the answer to the question posed in the title of my article.
