Abstract:
Instances of excessive formwork deformation and even failure have heightened concerns about form pressures generated when using self-consolidating concrete. While conducting tests to study the effects of mixture proportions, workability, and casting method (cast from the top or pumped from the base), researchers also found that inadvertent external vibrations significantly affected the concrete’s ability to form a stable internal structure that reduces form pressures over time. The results presented in this article suggest that form pressures at or near full hydrostatic pressure are appropriate when using the high casting rates often associated with the use of self-consolidating concrete.
