Abstract:
The minimum shear reinforcement requirements of the ACI Building Code (Section 11.5.5), as they apply to precast, prestressed double-tee units, are examined in this paper. The results of load tests on double-tees, as well as the performance record of double-tees without the code required minimum shear reinforcement, which have been used in actual construction, are reviewed. Some relaxation is sought in the minimum shear reinforcement requirements of the ACI Building Code, as they apply to precast, prestressed, double-tee elements.
