Abstract:
To repair a prestressed concrete bridge girder that had been damaged by frequent impacts from heavily loaded trucks, an innovative method involving prestressed carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) sheets was used to restore the girder’s flexural capacity. After repairing the damaged concrete, CFRP sheets were pretensioned, using specially designed jacking plates and anchors, and externally bonded to the concrete surface. The repairs were completed with minimal disruption to traffic. The steps involved in the repair are illustrated in a series of photos.
