Abstract:
To study the effects of concrete properties and finishing methods on delamination of lightweight concrete slabs, members of the American Society of Concrete Contractors and an ACI Committee 302 task group conducted two field studies. The variables considered included the substrate (vapor retarder or metal deck), finishing machine (walk-behind or ride-on), type of coarse aggregate (lightweight or normalweight), amount of entrained air, and type of cementitious material. The results of the study indicate a strong correlation between the presence of entrained air and delamination in lightweight concrete.
